Poet Laureate Charles Simic has chosen New Issues poet Matthew Thorburn for the 2008 Witter Bynner Fellowship and will introduce him at a reading on March 6 at the Library of Congress. The reading will be held at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, in the Montpelier Room of the James Madison Building, 101 Independence Ave. S.E., Washington, D.C. If you're in the area, everyone is welcome. Thorburn, of New York City, is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the MFA program at The New School. He is the author of Subject to Change (New Issues, 2004) and his poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review, Poetry, Seneca Review, Prairie Schooner and Indiana Review. His other honors include a fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the Mississippi Review Prize.
