Keplinger Poem on The Writer's Almanac

On November 30, David Keplinger's poem "Live on earth . . ." will be featured on the Writer's Almanac with Garrison Keillor. Audio of Keillor reading the poem can be heard on the website. "Live on earth . . . " is from Keplinger's book of prose poems, The Prayers of Others, and the full text of the poem can also be found on the Writer's Almanac website.

The 2008 New Issues Poetry Prize

The deadline is soon approaching for entering the 2008 New Issues Poetry Prize. Carl Phillips, author of Quiver of Arrows: Selected Poems, will be the final judge. November 30 is the postmark deadline. New Issues often accepts other manuscripts for publication besides the winner. Don't forget to submit! (Guidelines)

New Poems on The Diagram

Paul Guest Wins Whiting

Paul Guest, winner of the 2002 New Issues Poetry Prize for his first poetry collection The Resurrection of the Body and the Ruin of the World, was just awarded a Whiting Writers’ Award, which carries a $50,000 prize. Paul's second book, Notes for My Body Double, won the Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Poetry. He teaches at the University of West Georgia.

The Prayers of Others Wins Colorado Prize

David Keplinger's book of prose poems, The Prayers of Others, won the 2007 Colorado Book Award for Poetry. His other book with New Issues, The Clearing, was a finalist for the same award last year.

According to their website: "The Colorado Book Award is a program that seeks to celebrate the accomplishments of Colorado’s literary community. The Award is meant to both recognize outstanding authors and to promote those authors to Colorado readers. Our goal is to raise the profile of the literary community and recognize its contributors while increasing their accessibility to the everyday reader who will, in turn, appreciate and share their work."

AWP Novel, One Tribe, Wins Award

One Tribe, the first AWP Novel Award Winner published with New Issues, has won the 2007 Global Filipino Literary Award for Fiction.

One Tribe will be submitted to the Library of Congress and will receive a special catalog number for inclusion in the Global Filipino Literary Awards Collection housed permanently in the Library's Asian Reading Room. Even more exciting, the book's author, M. Evelina Galang, was named one of the 100 most influential Filipina Women in the US by Filipina Women's Network and was honored at the Filipina Summit (www.ffwn.org) in Washington D.C. where she read from One Tribe at the Library of Congress.
